We had researched Blush Cafe before arriving in Barbados and it had some great reviews as a veggie friendly location, alongside their many meaty offerings. Vegetarians will generally find it quite limited in terms of the variety of flavoursome meat-free meals on offer on the island.

Fish is aplenty for Pescatarians, but more imaginative tasty vegetarian fodder is harder to come by, so we thought we’d sample Blush Cafe for ourselves. Blush have recently relocated to the grounds of Sugar Bay Hotel (near to the Garrison), so one drizzly morning we ventured over for some brunch.

We parked in the Sugar Bay car park that felt safe with 24 hour security, and walked over to the fairly unassuming little doorway. As we opened the door we could see an abundance of silk stringed pink wisteria and roses covering a pink phone box. My son ran immediately to this and enjoyed role playing with the antique phone.

There were lovely seating areas positioned around the courtyard and a swinging seat draped with purple and white silk wisteria. As we walked around the corner there was a painting of angel wings on the wall, a girl was posing for a photograph whilst draped against them. A little pink tiled mosaic staircase led up to the cafe and a highly impactful wall of silk roses in multiple shades of pink – filled the entrance ahead. It was obvious to see that a lot of thought had gone into creating this very feminine, and quirky Instagram-able place.

We ordered coffee and fresh juices, Arlo selecting a Pink Lemonade and Ric a Kiwi & Apple Blast – all of which were squeezed and mixed to perfection. Arlo opted for the croissant with scrambled egg and cheese and we were spoilt for choice by the vegetarian offering. After much deliberation and inspecting everyone else’s beautifully presented dishes, we decided on fish tacos and vegetable quesadilla. Both meals – alongside the accompaniments – were packed with so much flavour and were one of the most simple, but delicious brunches we had eaten.

We didn’t have space for the beautifully presented cakes perched on high glass stands, but it all looked rather scrumptious. There was a group of young girls celebrating a birthday on the table next to us, and we took delight in watched their eyes grow with excitement when their enormous shakes were presented to them; with chunks of cake, sprinkles and wafers protruding out of the top – sugary goodness!

As we left I noticed a bell to ring for Prosecco, I definitely need to return to try that out!:) Such a perfect spot for a bottomless brunch with the girlies. But rest assured everyone will enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and delicious food on offer here.

TIPS

  • As an extra special treat, order yourself a Crazy Celebration Shake, topped with chunks of cake, sprinkles and wafers.
  • Grab your beachwear and walk down to the golden sands / shallow clear, waters in front of Sugar Bay.
